   Assistant Broadcast Technician

Employees work in television or radio broadcasting where they install, test, repair, set up, and operate the electronic equipment used to record and transmit radio and television programs, cable programs, and motion pictures. Note - In some states and territories of Australia, a restricted electrical licence is required. Please check with the relevant authority.

Qualification Information

CORE UNITS (11 required)
  • Solve problems in extra-low voltage single path circuits
  • Solve problems in multiple path d.c. circuits
  • Solve problems in frequency dependent circuits Perform manual soldering/desoldering - electrical/electronic components
  • Use power tools/hand held operations
  • Run standard diagnostic tests
  • Migrate to new technology
  • Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling: ACA Restricted Rule
  • Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling: ACA Open Rule
  • Work effectively in the screen and media industries
  • Develop and extend critical and creative thinking skills
  • Work effectively in the screen and media industries
  • Follow occupational health and safety procedures
ELECTIVE UNITS (7 required)
  • Solve problems in d.c. power supplies with single phase input
  • Solve problems in digital components of electronic apparatus
  • Carry out repairs of predictable faults in audio and video replay/recording apparatus
  • Find and repair faults in electronic apparatus
  • Install and optimise operating system software
  • Install and manage network protocols
  • Determine and action network problems
