   Costume Maker

Employees design, manufacture and purchase costumes for television, film and stage productions. Work may include: talking with directors and designers about the types of costumes to be worn; estimating costs involved in supplying costumes and accessories; taking actors' measurements; making, buying, hiring costumes or arranging to have them made; preparing material and labour budgets; arranging fittings and alterations during production as well as; maintaining and storing costumes.

Qualification Information

CORE UNITS (3 required)
  • Develop and apply industry knowledge
  • Follow health safety and security procedures
  • Make costumes
SPECIALIST UNITS (5 required)
  • Assemble/fit custom made/bespoke garments
  • Grade patterns
  • Maintain costume continuity
  • Measure, lay up and cut custom made garments
  • Select and/or modify patterns or blocks
ELECTIVE UNITS (4 required)
  • Apply art finishing
  • Coordinate the purchase or hire of equipment/supplies
  • Make millinery
  • Dress (style) hair
