   Lighting Technician

Employees position, set up and operate lighting equipment to light sets or studios during stage performances, television broadcasts or film productions. They are responsible, both creatively and technically, for lighting interior and outside scenes and must achieve the desired effects through the placement, intensity and colour of lighting.

Qualification Information

CORE UNITS (2 required)
  • Develop and apply industry knowledge
  • Follow health, safety and security procedures
SPECIALIST UNITS (4 required)
  • Attach flexible cords and plugs to electrical equipment connected to a single-phase 250 volt supply
  • Maintain, repair and modify lighting equipment
  • Operate lighting consoles
  • Prepare, install and monitor lighting equipment
ELECTIVE UNITS (5 required)
  • Attach flexible cables and plugs to electrical equipment connected to a supply up to 1,000 volts AC or 1,500 volts DC
  • Communicate using a two-way system
  • Disconnect and reconnect fixed-wired electrical equipment connected to a supply up to 1,000 volts AC or 1,500 volts DC
  • Breakdown a script
  • Check, maintain and repair equipment
