   Ceramics Studio - Assistant

Employees mould clay into functional items or conceptual works by wheel throwing, moulding or hand building. They then mix glazing materials to decorate, using various techniques, and apply the glaze, place pieces in kilns for firing and may decorate the pottery for artistic effect.

Qualification Information

CORE UNITS (4 required)
  • Develop, refine and communicate concept for own work
  • Follow health safety and security procedures
  • Produce drawings to represent and communicate the concept
  • Review history and theory for application to artistic practice
ELECTIVE (10 required)
  • Develop self as artist
  • Prepare, store and maintain finished work
  • Apply the design process to 3-dimensional work in response to a brief
  • Integrate colour theory and design processes in response to a brief
  • Produce sculpture
  • Produce ceramics
  • Operate manual glazing equipment
  • Hand mould ceramics
  • Apply techniques in wheel-formed ceramics
  • Produce computer-aided drawings
